Whilst starting her working life as a nurse Narelle soon married Robert in 1976, moved to Beerwah and operated a butcher shop in Nambour. After selling the butcher, Robert came back to farming with his parents, and upon their retirement, Robert and Narelle kept farming growing strawberries and pineapples. During this time the three girls were born (Amanda, Kylie & Megan) and as soon as they were able, helped with the day to day operations on the farm. Thirty-six years later, in 2009 they decided to take a different path open the butchers, on the farm. Narelle now works 5 days a week in the shop with a focus on ensuring all the wholesale orders are organized for the staff to pack and complete the manual invoices each day. Narelle is particularly proud of their very own Peachester Gold Ham and supply many local businesses with ham and bacon, and their paddock to plate beef.
In her spare time (if there is such a thing) she enjoys spending time with her 4 grand-children (Lachlan, Erin. Lucas and Kate) and tinkering around in her gardens.
With 50 years’ experience in the industry Robert is well versed in providing expert advice in the butchery business. Robert prides himself on ensuring the business operates with good old fashioned customer service and takes great pride in having a locally owned, family operated butcher that services the local community. Having developed their very own, award winning, Peachester Gold ham, bacon and small goods.
Robert continues to lead from the front in improving quality that the ‘not so local’ are willing to travel to acquire. Robert also takes great pride in the fact that Barry’s Family Butchers is a very generous supporter of its local community through sporting and community groups.
Kylie has spent much of her working life working with her parents predominantly in payroll and administration roles. As is the case when you work in a family run business, she has often been called upon to perform other operational duties in order to ensure customers are receiving quality and Kylie is now as synonymous to Barry Family Butchers as Robert and Narelle.
Being a family owned and operated business allows Kylie the flexibility she requires to be heavily involved with, her daughter Erin’s schooling and extra-curricular pursuits or fulfilling her other ‘full time’ role as Treasurer (amongst other). Kylie loves the feeling of ‘giving back’ and believes her generous spirit comes from the example of her parents who have supported and provided for the local community for as long as she can remember!
